Flights, Busted Ceiling, Repairs, & Tim Hawkins

I couldn't help but ease back into blogging some posts from France with a post about our reentry.  We flew home with bags checked in at the airport.  I repeat - CHECKED.  None of this let's carry it on stuff like our flight to Paris. All bags - with a tag & under the plane.  Chris had reserved a car to take us from the hotel to the airport.  The guy was early & helped load all the luggage into the large van.  We then found free smart carts to help us to the check in desk.  Sweet!  Then we said bon voyage to all the bags after being the first ones at the desk.  Yes!!  We got through security with a tiny line - nothing at all.  Got one final pastry & cappacino & away we went to pre-board.  Awesome!
The flight had us riding in the 4 seats in the middle aisle - 3 in one row & 3 in another.  We had really kind people in our 4th seat with us.  Delta is stepping up to make air travel top notch.  They came around atleast 4 times for drinks - hot towels, citrus towels, and a delicious meal.  Way to go Delta.  The kids had a kid channel that had all sorts of movies just for them as well as video games.  The flight flew by & truly had zero complaints.
We had to connect through Detroit & my only suggestion is if you buy duty free items - check them in your luggage or say - see you later to it at the international security section in the states.  Don't get me going on that one.  Delta had some technical errors finding Rebekah & Jacob's tickets for some reason in Detroit.  They had completely booted them off the flight but we thankfully had their information printed out that they fixed it & got them seats.  Rebekah & Ryan had to sit by themselves - but only one row away, thankfully.  We made the flight & after 3 hours - saw Mimi & Grandad at the airport who graciously helped us to the car with our entourage of luggage.  We hopped in the van & made the 2 hour trek back to Waco.
Anyone familiar with this drive - its usually no big deal - especially when you are well rested.  When we hit West (TX) - the eyes began to droop. Chris was literally rubbing ice cubes around his face so he wouldn't drift off to sleep.  Yikes!  We didn't want to stop 30 minutes out - but boy oh boy we were tired!  If it had been another hour - I'm thinking we would have had to stop.  We made it home close to 9pm.
We were all so thankful to be home that we put on our pjs & drifted off to sleep....until 1am, 3 am, 5am & then we let the kids get up around 5:30 to watch cartoons.  Good morning, jetlag!
Our first morning home, tt was about time for our heater to have a new filter and what better time than the first morning back, right?  Wrong!  Chris went up into the attic to the location above the kitchen.  I was in the kitchen with dancing kids around me about being so excited to be back home & eating the yummy cinnamon cereal that was in our kitchen.  In a weird flash of a moment - I'm giggling because there was what felt like snow falling everywhere.  I couldn't control the laughter until I looked up & saw a foot dangling through the ceiling and heard a resounding "ow" from above.  I then was brought to reality that Chris had fallen through the ceiling & we had to see if he needed help.  He was able to pull himself up & get downstairs -but after inspection - we realized he needed to check to see if he needed stiches in his hand where he caught his fall.  Yikes!  He had some time before he left where I cleaned up all the insulation that fell & he wanted to bandage the ceiling until it could be repaired.  I told him that the only thing I could think of was the line from Home Alone 2, "Wow, what a hole!"

Photo: Got any advice on graceful re-entry from a long trip?

Stepped through the ceiling while changing AC filters, because it was freezing cold in our house, (HVAC was blocked up with old filter)... Picture me yelping while drywall and insulation fall into our kids cereal bowls. :) Seriously thankful, only got a bad bruise and a sliced hand that didn't need stitches - or that I didn't fall through and land on somebody small!
After a visit to Urgent Care, he thankfully just needed a bandage & zero stiches.  We've been home now a handful of days & thankfully his wounds are beginning to heal.

We had the repair men out to help today.   I will keep the company name anonymous since we have some local readers - but hilariousness!  They began to describe what they think was super lucky that he didn't break a whole host of things in his body but did so with quite of bit of comedy.  Tears - streaming down my face from laughter, and trying to do so discretely.    One of their phones kept ringing with a funny song & Jacob & Ryan kept dancing to the tune.  I was trying so hard to keep them from causing a scene....but competely difficult because we were all about to bust a gut from giggles.  Thank you kind sirs for repairing our home & bringing humor to our morning & realization of the blessing of Chris being well & at home with only a few scrapes & brusies.

To end the post - Chris & I got a few laughs yesterday from Tim Hawkin's video segments.  Here are few clips - but you can check out more on his site or on you tube.  I think we find humor in things that are relatable.  I'm just saying my husband was quite tickled at the car repair & dream segments.  ;)

More of France to come....
