Le prix du liberte (The price of freedom) ~ This was an incapsulated phrase when gazing upon the massive sacrifice that was necessary for our freedom.
"You can manufacture weapons and you can purchase ammunition, but you can't
buy valor and you can't pull heroes off an assembly line."
Sgt. John B. Ellery, US 1st Infantry Division

My favorite part of the day was looking at the bridge that Winston Churchill thought of along with a few others. I also liked looking at the huge boat and thinking of all the soldiers jumping off into battle and getting pelted by German machine guns.

My favorite part was seeing the canons and army truck. I liked going through the disembarkment museum and learning more about D-day. I enjoyed looking through the store and getting a d-day beach keychain.

I liked seeing Gold and Omaha beach. I liked going to the museum and seeing the videos about D-day with all the people on there. I felt bad for all the people who had died on D-day. There were alot of graves at the American cemetery with white crosses.

I enjoyed going on the sand. I enjoyed learning about the beaches. My dad taught me how to learn all the names: Soggy Jello Gets Old Underwater. Sword - Juno - Gold - Omaha - Utah

I enjoyed all of the above and would echo everyone's thoughts from the day. As a side, it was very moving for me to think of my Grandy flying a fighter jet in WW2 and seeing all the illustrations of where and how the US came into battle. *Dad, Uncle Paul, Philip, or David - Do you have any insight of where Grandy was in the war? So curious now that I have a visual in my mind.
Also, walking through the American cemetery was very moving. I really don't have a whole lot of words except - I'm so thankful for the soldiers that fought for freedom. I'm not sure if we have anyone in the military reading this - but if so the Blocker family would like to share our abundant thanks for all that you do for us and our country to preserve and protect our freedom. You are a blessing!!!
So cool!!!

ReplyDeleteI said it is so amazing! It looks like the kids are enjoying themselves! I want one of those sandwiches....or whatever they are called over there :-)
ReplyDeleteSo fun to read your adventures every evening. Been having trouble posting comments. Xoxo
ReplyDeleteYeah it worked tonight! Ok so I laughed so hard with your grocery cart story. You told the story so well. I made boeuf bourguignon tonight for dinner, kind of. But it is still so yummy! Looks so wet and cold at the beach. I bet warm bread was yummy on such a cold day. Love you!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what's going on with the comments - I've gotten other emails saying it is hard for them to comment too. Bummer! Its fun hearing from everyone on here - it helps us feel connected to home - especially with our internet connection spotty - its like texting for blogs.
ReplyDeleteBeef Bourguignon for dinner - yum!!!! It was definitely chilly on the beach yesterday - we heard that in the deep part of winter - they can even get snow on the beach.
The warm bread was so good - my favorite part was snapping pictures of the kids delighting in their baguettes w/ jambon and fromage.
The grocery store was definitely an adventure in itself. We are headed back there today after school to get groceries for this week. Hoping our little circle key works again to get our 'chariot'. I will keep you posted. :)
