We didn’t wake up until about 10:30am, which was an improvement from noon the day before. Since we are here for 7 weeks – we were not real motivated to set the alarm at 8am to jumpstart the time change….that was until today (Saturday – see details below) ;)
Yesterday we stayed in our pajamas all day, did some school
work, read books, & colored.
I’m not sure I remember our kids coloring for that long since they were really small. They
loved it and said on more than one occasion how peaceful it was to color all
day long. I have realized in the
last few days how ‘on’ we are most of the time….get here, get there, get this
or that done, so to truly slow down and not live life in that way has been an
adjustment and yet a welcome break.
Chris and I had high hopes that we would stay home all day & reset
to French time by putting the kids to bed early. 8pm rolled around & stories were read, prayers and
kisses were given, the lights were turned out. Chris & I have been making our way through different
French movies & thought tonight would be a great movie night. One by one the kids came out for one
reason or another and we sent them back to bed. Our movie ended
and off to bed we went. It wasn’t
a few minutes and we heard them…and we heard them, and we heard them….slowly
they drifted off to sleep, except for one, who will remain nameless didn’t go
to sleep until 3 in the morning. This child declared they were done & were ready to pack
it in to head back to the states.
Exhaustion coupled with new surroundings can play crazy tricks on our
outlook on life. We tried to tell
them that it was normal and all would be well soon. We were all just between time changes & they would adapt
soon. After such a long night, we set the alarm to begin to align w/ French time. When the 8:45 alarm came
this morning, this child who fell asleep on the couch with a flashlight said,
“Did we make it?” Survival of the
sleepiest. We had indeed made it
& survived the sleepless night.
;) Not a whole lot of photos taken on Friday, except for the one of Rebekah reading in the window sill.... Saturday on the Cider Route coming soon....
