Just along the river Seine, just steps away from the Notre Dame.
This photo doesn't come close to the beautiful art & stained glass inside. The architecture is amazing. We loved walking through there. The church is celebrating its 850th year in 2013!
The most amazing Nativity set up alongside one of the corridor's of the Notre Dame. Beautiful!
After touring the Louvre, we went outside to the little playground in the courtyard. They loved the spinning saucer and swing.
These guys made the walk from the Notre Dame over the bridge to Ile St. Louis what I think most of us play in our heads when we think of walking the streets of Paris. Or atleast for me it was the background music I would have playing as I daydream of days in Paris. They were playing French jazz music & it filled the air with culture & beauty. We snatched up one of their cds to play back at home when we are remembering our Parisian days.
A boucherie on Ile St. Louis. We still didn't have any meat due to my almost purchase of pork something or other, ephasis on the other. :) We went to eat & were going to come back to get meat from this shop because of all of his awards in his window. However, when we got back - he was closed for lunch. Still trying to remember that the shops do this....it's so different than what we are used to. We found this guy's butcher shop still open at lunchtime & he was super helpful with my limited French speaking. We ended up writing notes in French so I could understand the cost of each piece of meat I was requesting.
He thought it was pretty funny that I wanted to take his photo - but I think liked the kids & I's admiration of his work.
We went to lunch at Le Flore on the Ile St Louis. I wasn't real sure how good it would be because I knew nothing about it. But it looked charming, kid friendly, so in we went to have lunch. Look at the omelette & quiche we had below. So delicious!! The omelet photo doesn't do it justice. It was so light & fluffy & warm & cozy for our cool winter day. The best part was the chocolate chaud. I have never seen it served this way & will now become the way to go for a special treat. They made chocolate ganache and put it in a small silver carafe. Then they had a medium size carafe of hot steamed milk. On a small plate was a chocolate drizzled meringue. They gave the kids empty cups & then we went to work on making their cup of chocolatey goodness. You put a small amount of ganache in the bottom of the cup. Then pour the hot milk over it to fill the cup. Then put the meringue on top. The kids loved it!!!
Check out the yummy sugar cubes above! I couldn't resist taking a picture.
Afterwards we walked back over the same bridge where the musicians had been. We found one of the street performers dressed in all grey & a broom. Jacob tossed a coin out there & unfortunately I had given him a small one so the guy barely moved his broom. Jacob didn't quite understand what was going on - so he started picking up the coins by the broom to throw it again. Katharine, Mom & I got so tickled that the guy softened from our lack of contribution. He had seen Halle staring at him & asked her to come over and take a picture with him.
One last thing we snagged before leaving the island was an advent wreath. My favorite flower market is on the island. I would show a picture of the amazing flowers still in bloom in the winter - but their outside is under construction. Here is a photo of the market when we came last time -
She wrapped it up all pretty with dried oranges, pinecones, & candles.
Here are the kids back at home working on school for the afternoon.
Honey & Mimi went out on the town for more exploring. They had dinner out for Katharine's last night here & enjoyed getting to soak up a little of the night time in the City of Lights.
She left on a flight the next morning. Katharine - Thank you so much for coming! We loved having you here & getting to explore Mont St. Michel & Paris with you. Sending lots of hugs to you & Grandad Bo!! :) We love you!!!
